A few weeks ago, I met a new friend who’s at a crossroads about her next career move. She’s held high-profile, high-impact positions in the past, but she’s wise enough to recognize that spending time with her family is important to her. Whatever’s next must fit with her family.
To help her think differently about the situation I sent her this quote.
“I don’t know where I’m going, but I know exactly how to get there.”
Renias, the originator of this statement is a master lion tracker. In this particular story, Renias and his fellow trackers have lost the lion’s trail. They’ve searched for hours following various signs in the dirt, grass, and sky to no avail.
The others have nearly given up hope, but Renias, trusting in the wisdom and wildness of his body, reminds them he’ll find the lion by trusting his intuition, step by imperfect step. Planning and strategy are not useful. He tuned into his inner knowing, heeded its message, and rediscovered the track a short time later.
I wonder what your inner knowing wants to say.
What if, instead of planning, strategizing and focusing far into the future, you followed your own spark of aliveness in this moment?
It won’t be easy. The part of you that loves certainty will poke you, reminding you to use your head, and focus on the destination.
What about that part of you that’s been searching for joy, excitement and wants to thrive in the process?
Often as we get older and forget about or dismiss that part. In our maturity, we judge it as childish and silly. But she’s still there waiting to be heard underneath all the “shoulds” and demands of others. Can you hear her? How will you answer?
Getting back in touch with your body will allow you to be present to your life. The body holds so much intelligence. It’s a shame how much of ourselves and our wisdom we leave behind when we by focus only on the goal at the expense of aliveness.
I invite you to play with me. I host a free monthly Embodied Intelligence workshop where you can experience what it’s like to work with your body to shift your state from, say, being hyper focused on what others want– to reconnecting with your own desires. Register here.
